Do palms change? Why the lines are said to shift

updated · 5 min read

HarutoHaruto here. After a palm reading, people sometimes ask whether it stays like this for life. As it happens, not quite.

A palm is not taken to be unchanging over a life. The heavy lines — life, head and heart — do not move much, while the fine lines and the branchings are said to look different over months or years.

The heavy lines are hard to move because they belong to the structure of the hand itself. The fine ones are more open to how you use your hands and the condition of the skin. So what changes is mostly in the detail while the skeleton holds.

How much changes varies. Some people notice nothing at all; others look again after a while and find a different impression. Nothing changing is not a bad thing in itself.

How long to leave between looks

Comparing day to day shows nothing. How it photographs varies more from day to day than the lines do, which only confuses things. Leaving an interval is the practical approach.

IntervalWhat you can tell
A weekAlmost nothing. The difference in how you photographed it is larger
Three monthsFine lines appearing or fading can show
Six months to a yearThe change in overall impression is easier to see
Several yearsDifferences in branching and in the length of lines can appear

You may come across explanations that tie changes in a palm to health or illness. This service does not read palms that way. For anything concerning your health, please speak to a qualified professional.

If you are comparing, keep the photography the same

When comparing with an earlier photograph, the greatest obstacle is a difference in the conditions. A change in the angle of the light alone changes how many lines appear. You cannot tell whether lines increased or only photographed differently.

Noting the date alongside the photograph makes comparison easier later. A line in a notebook is enough, and saves you wondering six months on which came first.

If you intend to compare, photograph in the same place, at the same time of day, with the hand opened the same way. A spot a little back from a window with daylight from the side gives the steadiest conditions.

It is natural for the two hands to differ

Lines differing between the right and the left hand is ordinary. It is commonly said that the left shows what you were born with and the right what you have developed since, although some schools assign it the other way round.

If you want to follow changes, the dominant hand suits better. The hand you use every day is thought to show your present state more readily.

How this service handles it

This service reads the lines from the photograph you send. It does not keep past photographs, so it cannot compare with a previous reading. If you want to compare, keep the photographs yourself.

HarutoThere is nothing to worry about if nothing has changed. It means the foundation is holding. Take another photograph whenever you feel like it.

Common questions

If my palm changed, does that mean my character changed?
It is not that simple. A palm is taken to read tendencies, and a change is generally understood as showing a shift in how you are living or how you feel.
Can you compare with my previous result?
We cannot. This service stores neither photographs nor results. To compare, you would need to keep a note of the earlier result yourself.
How often should I have it read?
Leaving three to six months makes changes easier to see. Looking weekly shows the difference in how you photographed it more than anything else.

One photograph is enough. Images are discarded as soon as the analysis is done. Free.
