How compatibility is worked out

Compatibility is read through four methods using both people's names and dates of birth: the Four Pillars day stem, the Nine Star Ki natal star, the personality number in name analysis, and the numerology life path number. With names in Latin letters, name analysis drops out and three remain.

The four do not carry equal weight. Four Pillars counts most, because the day stem is taken to stand for the person, and the combined value becomes the score.

Why you choose a relationship

The same two people read differently as friends and as manager and team member. Each relationship puts something different at the centre of the reading.

RelationshipWhat the reading centres on
As friendsWhether you can relax around each other, and which of you tends to look after the other
As colleaguesWhether your ways of working mesh, and who lays the groundwork while the other shapes it
They are senior to youWhether you are likely to be brought forward, or to find their demands heavy
You are senior to themWhether you work well as the one who develops them, or tend to push too hard
RomanticallyWhether you wear each other out, and which of you tends to give more

A pairing where one side holds the other back is not treated as a poor match. At work that tension can keep you both sharp; between partners it is more likely to weigh on you. The meaning moves with the relationship.

If you swap the two people

Swapping yourself and the other person can change the score. The Five Elements have a direction, and the reading turns on which side is holding back the other. Since the reading looks at a relationship with two different sides, the side you look from matters.
