A match reads differently by relationship — the same arrangement, reconsidered
updated · 5 min read
What the match stands on is the producing and checking relations of the five elements — the relations between wood, fire, earth, metal and water. That much is fixed mechanically from two dates of birth and two names.
What is used is the day stem of the Four Pillars, the principal star of Nine Star Ki, and the personality number from the strokes of a name. All three convert to elements, so all three can go through the same table of relations. The life path number from numerology is added, giving four points of view.
What that arrangement means, though, changes with the relationship. Treat it uniformly and the result stops matching how things actually feel.
Reading the arrangement where they check you
Take an arrangement where the other person's element checks yours. Here is how much the same arrangement differs by relationship.
| Relationship | Reading of the same arrangement |
|---|---|
| As friends | You tend to fall in with their pace. If it feels airless, take some distance |
| As colleagues | You often work to their standard. Some of that tension lifts the quality |
| They are senior to you | The demands are hard and it develops you. It tends to read later as the stretch in which you grew |
| They are junior to you | The positions can feel reversed. Setting the roles down in writing helps |
| Romantically | You are easily carried along, and the pull is strong as well |
The score is only a guide
This service judges from four points of view — the day stem of the Four Pillars, the principal star of Nine Star Ki, the strokes of a name and the numerology group. The score is their average. The breakdown by point of view is always shown as well.
Do not decide from the score alone that you and someone do not suit. The same arrangement becomes a strength when the position changes. Reading the breakdown gives you more to work with.
The name reading counts the strokes of Japanese characters, so where either name is written in the Latin alphabet it is left out and the score comes from the remaining three, with a note saying so.
Swap yourself and them and the score changes
Because relationships with a direction in them are handled, the result depends on whose side you are reading from. The arrangement where they are senior to you, and the arrangement where you are senior to them, read differently for the same two people.
That is not a fault. Take it as a sign that a match cannot be reduced to one number. A relationship goes both ways, and how it feels differs by where you stand in it.

Common questions
- Does a low score mean we do not suit?
- That is not how it reads. It is an arrangement where a restraining force is at work, and once the distance and the roles are settled it lasts a long time. Look at the breakdown and the explanation of the reading.
- Is the other person's information stored anywhere?
- It is not. The whole calculation runs inside your own device, and nothing you enter is sent to any server.
- Can I change the relationship afterwards?
- You can switch at any time on the result screen. There is no need to enter anything again. The period can be switched the same way.
